Как управлять своим страхом?

Мы обычно думаем о страхе как о том, что нас сдерживает, или о том, чего следует избегать. Но что, если бы мы могли увидеть в нем мощный инструмент?

 

Что, если мы можем управлять этим инструментом? Мы могли бы стать хозяевами жизни, не бояться быть отвергнутыми, неудач, насмешек и многого другого.

 

Страх — это своего рода барьер, который не дает нам делать в жизни удивительные вещи. Или, если мы и преодолеваем этот барьер, то сталкиваемся со страхом, который делает этот опыт ничтожным, и съеживаемся.

 

Но на самом деле страх полезен. Когда-то давным-давно страх был сигналом убегать от льва или какой-то другой опасности, и это было очень полезно. В наши дни мы не встречаемся с такой же большой физической опасностью (теперь львы нас боятся), но те же самые сигналы страха все еще случаются, даже когда мы стремимся к своей мечте или становимся уязвимыми для других людей.

 

В наши дни страхи касаются не физической опасности, а того, что мы можем быть недостаточно хороши в чем-то. Вот самые частые страхи согласно опросу, который я сделал в начале этого года:

 

1. Боязнь неудачи

 

2. Страх не соответствовать чему-то

 

3. Страх быть отвергнутыми

 

4. Страх быть неподготовленными

 

5. Страх быть обманутыми

 

6. Боязнь насмешек

 

Вы можете заметить, что все это один и тот же страх. Страх быть недостаточно хорошим — если мы недостаточно хороши (не соответствуем), мы можем потерпеть неудачу, нас могут отвергнуть, нас могут высмеять, нас могут обмануть, нам может понадобиться подготовка, потому что без нее мы не сможем соответствовать. Наш самый глубокий и самый распространенный страх состоит в том, что мы недостаточно хороши. Это не физическая опасность, это то, что внутри.

 

Таким образом, страх перестает быть сигналом о том, что мы должны бежать.

 

Напротив, страх — это полезный сигнал, что мы должны идти к чему-то.

 

Давайте узнаем как.

 

Свобода и стена страха

 

Всякий раз, когда мы чувствуем страх, это означает, что мы наткнулись на какую-то стену… С другой стороны этой стены находится какая-то свобода.

 

Это свобода, которую мы желаем, и хотеть такой свободы естественно. Но мы противостоим страху, и он может сдерживать нас, потому что наша нормальная реакция — избегать стены страха. Избегая ее, мы остаемся на той стороне стены, где нам удобно, где мы знаем, что делаем, где легко. Мы в ловушке этой стены страха, пока мы ее избегаем.

 

Что произойдет, если мы прорвемся через эту стену? Мы получим свободу: быть уязвимыми при общении с другими, выходить за рамки и жить так, как мы действительно хотим, публиковать книги, создавать веб-сайты и подкасты, писать стихи, изучать мир или строить организации, заводить друзей и любить всем сердцем.

 

Свобода находится по ту сторону стены страха. Поэтому, когда мы чувствуем страх, это на самом деле сигнал, что нужно идти к этому страху.

 

Да, это сложно. Но избегать его бессмысленно. Это просто вызывает еще больше трудностей. Вместо этого мы можем заглянуть внутрь и увидеть ту суматоху, о которой сигнализирует страх. Войти в нашу пещеру тьмы и осознать все, что там есть. Это означает, что нужно найти то, в чем мы считаем себя недостаточно хорошими, и попытаться научиться любить себя, научиться ощущать себя хорошо, даже если нас отвергли или мы потерпели неудачу.

 

И мы также можем мужественно действовать и при наличии страха.

 

Действия перед лицом страха

 

Само по себе присутствие страха не означает, что мы должны бежать. На самом деле мы можем научиться действовать сознательно даже в присутствии страха.

 

Практика заключается в том, чтобы заметить момент появления страха и свою привычную реакцию. Оставайтесь со страхом и обратите внимание на то, как он ощущается физически. Осознайте, что это не так уж плохо, что мы действительно можем чувствовать себя хорошо с этим физическим ощущением. Это просто гормоны в наших телах, просто энергия возбуждения.

 

Проживая момент, мы можем действовать: написать книгу, поговорить, пойти на общественное мероприятие, выйти на сцену. Мы можем полностью погрузиться в этот момент, ощущая страх в наших телах, но продолжая действовать.

 

Страх — это переживание о будущем, которого не существует. Осознав это, мы можем вернуться к настоящему моменту: тому, что здесь перед нами. Мы можем быть благодарны за это. Мы можем улыбнуться и начинать действовать.

 

Это требует практики. Попробуйте прямо сейчас. Тренируйтесь каждый день: идите к тому, что вас пугает, раз за разом. Прикасайтесь к страху. Будьте мужественны, пробивая стену страха в свободу открытости.
